Congratulations!

Congratulations to the CT Film Initiative!  Voted as the winner of the COLLISION Art v Tech pitch competition, CTFI seeks to serve as a professional film-making resource for Connecticut creatives of every niche, by fostering togetherness through the production of original films that best showcase the strengths of artists, while encouraging the growth of lucrative film-making job opportunities in the state of Connecticut. 

The three Art ventures who pitched – Lunch Money Print, CT Film Initiative, and Royal Cuffs – won the industry prize, beating out the tech startups – N-Gage, WH@M, and Heliablu, who were all excellent.

CT Film Initiative

Problem
The social adversities and difficulties that are plaguing our American communities require an urgent call to action. Those working through serious afflictions including addiction and domestic violence deserve to not only have their voices heard, but a therapeutic means to heal. The Film For Therapy division of our statewide film initiative allows us to be the voice for these causes through meaningful film pieces that unmask social issues while providing an artistic outlet for those in peril.

Solution
We offer paying jobs for creatives of every niche, to develop and distribute films with a strong social message. CTFI fosters togetherness through the production of our original films that best showcase the talents of up and coming East Coast artists while encouraging the growth of lucrative film-making job opportunities. But, what particularly sets us apart from the mission of other production companies is our Film For Therapy social movement. This makes our process two-fold. While, yes, we are focused on the economic development of the state, we also seek to create a safe and therapeutic space for those overcoming afflictions. Our Film For Therapy movement partners us with Non-Profit organizations that are in need of a voice for social change.

Lunch Money Print

Problem
There is an overabundance of talented artists making thought-provoking artwork, however, the majority of people don’t own any contemporary art, for a variety of reasons, including people think they can’t afford art, customers don’t have enough space to buy more art, potential customers don’t know what kind of art they want, potential customers don’t feel they will understand contemporary art – or are reluctant to – and customers don’t know how it will look on their wall.

Solution
An art gallery’s usual selling tactic is to make their art exclusive, elite and scarce. Lunch Money Print is against this vision and instead brings thought-provoking contemporary art into our living spaces, making “Art” accessible, inclusive and less dense.

Swivel, a new program by Lunch Money Print, is an entire collection of contemporary art, direct to your wall, available on rotation. Original works on paper are available and all framed in standard size 16″x20″, 20″x30″ and 30″x30″ frames. Customers pay a monthly fee for a particular size and can swap out with another at any time by choosing another artwork to ship online. Reproductions are also available to collect and swap through the use of our patent pending magnetic frame.

Royal Cuffs

Problem
Art is where dreams and ideas come to life. Fashion is a bit hard to create a new idea because marketing is such a heavy factor in what “works” and what doesn’t. We designed a new product for shoes and comfortable athleisure attire to give it a bit of style and creativity. The fashion industry itself lacks differentiating factors and this is the product to break down that barrier.

Solution
Royal Cuffs started from a dream where people cuffed their pants with style. Whether it’s a particular fabric color, design, or texture the confidence that exudes through the cuffs resembles royalty, hence the name. The way you think about and carry yourself says something about who you are. The emergence of streetwear is giving more people the opportunity to be themselves. So ​essentially we created the TIE for streetwear. Comfortable, functional and stylish – the cuffs are the modern day fashion accessory that revolutionizes the way people think about personal style.

Heliablu

Problem
The emerging wearable tech industry has mainly focused on building upon the success of products like fitness trackers and smartwatches while attempts to successfully branch out new categories have so far seen mixed results. One of the newer types of wearables aiming but struggling to breakthrough so far is “smart jewelry”. I have been watching closely for years and noticed a common theme… wearable tech startups fail to compete in the jewelry market because they focus on function first and treat form as an afterthought.

Why do we wear jewelry? We use it as a form of visual expression and symbol of self-identity. Without speaking, it helps convey feelings, emotion, status, personality, and even physical attraction to people around us. It can help us gain desired attention or stand out in social settings. Unfortunately, most of the occasions we dress up for tend to occur after the sun goes down when low ambient light conditions work against the combinations of sparkle, shine, and color we carefully choose to adorn our bodies with. Jewelry is not the only means for making a visible statement to the people around us. To combat this dilemma, we are resorting more and more to premium technology in everyday gadgets, cars, and homes to help us stand out. The most effective way of doing this is through products containing features that illuminate with colorful accent lighting. Still, we cannot always carry these alternatives with us wherever we go.

Solution
Heliablu will bring to market the first wearable tech product that marries jewelry with technology for the sole purpose of enhanced visual appeal – bringing attractive accent lighting to your body. We are currently nearing completion of our MVP prototype for “E-Luminesce”, a premium electroluminescent modular smart jewelry necklace platform. The innovation of our product lies in its unique design: ultra-efficient and high-quality lighting, optical, sensor, and battery components within the delicate confines of a highly customizable modular necklace. It is composed entirely of premium metals (titanium, sterling silver, stainless steel, & gold), glass, ceramics, and flawless man-made gemstones (Cubic Zirconia, Synthetic Sapphire, etc.).

Problem
N Gage creates visual performance management software for contact centers.

Solution
The software grabs Key Performance Indicators, KPI’s, time and attendance and quality review scores and migrates the data in real time into a visual environment that is monetized.

The visual environment allows for leadership to introduce items of value that can increase CRS’s productivity.

Problem
No established social network (Facebook/ LinkedIn etc.) makes it possible to use geolocation to find people with whom you share a common link/descriptor, whether you actually know that person or not. And no app gives you the flexibility, both in how you label yourself and indicate where you are and how wide a radius you want to search.

Solution
Builds connections between people who share commonalities but who are not in each other’s “established” networks, using geolocation via smartphone. Imagine you’re sitting at the airport waiting for a flight. How do you know if a former classmate is just a gate away? At the ballpark, on top of Mt. Washington, in Hong Kong or Paris, anywhere/anytime. With this app and no other, you’ll know instantaneously. WH@M facilitates those serendipitous encounters.
